Toronto Home Security for Your Pet

Toronto pet securityAs a pet owner no doubt your pet is an important part of your family. You will certainly want to keep him or her safe and secure in your home. There are some basic security measures that you can do for this which includes the protection that your home security system offers.

Lots of people living in Toronto have pets, and most commonly dogs and cats. At the same time most families live a busy lifestyle and these animals are home alone during the day. Having a good security system in place for your home offers extra protection for them. It used to be that thieves that would break into a home had no interest in the family dog or cat other than to make sure it wasn’t going to attack them. They were only interested in the valuables of the home. Now with the family pets costing so much to buy and many owners favor the purebreds these animals come with quite a price tag. Burglars may consider that they can get a good return on pawning off your pet.

It is not uncommon for home owners to provide a pet door so their animal can come and go outdoors during the day. This has its benefits but can also create a potential danger. If it is not small enough then it could provide an opening for a thief to use. The other problem is even though your yard may be fenced in, if your dog has become a target for a thief usually a fence is not going to be enough to deter them. Having CCTV cameras on your yard is a good option.

You are probably in the habit of letting your pet out at night just before bed. Having outdoor security lighting will provide your pet with some extra protection against a thief trying to take them at this time.

You may want to check with your vet to see if they offer computer micro chipping which could help to identify your pet if they become stolen or lost.

Another big concern is the animal being trapped in the home if a fire should break out. Having a sticker on your door that there is an animal in the house helps to alert responders who will try and rescue them. Of course keeping your fire alert system up to date is a priority.

When you are looking into security measures for your home, be sure to ask the Toronto locksmith security experts what extra measures you can take to protect your pets from being stolen.
