Keeping Your Vehicle Security Safe

Vehicle Security by Pre-LockMost everyone takes the time to make sure their vehicles are mechanically safe. Then this is followed by keeping it in good condition when it comes to it’s appearance. What is sometimes forgotten though is keeping our cars, trucks and vans security safe from break in and theft.

When living in a good neighborhood it sometimes becomes a habit to leave the vehicle unlocked. This is not a good habit to form because it happens to be one that “would be” thieves count on.

Something that is often considered when buying a vehicle is perhaps not buying a high end vehicle because many people feel its just an invitation for theft. This may not always be the case however. Thieves like value and will go after cars that have a reputation for being well made and have longevity. It is easier for the thieves to move their stolen goods when they possess these types of assets.

Small things that you can do to make your vehicle less of a target is to make sure that you aren’t leaving valuable in it that can be easily seen. Better still don’t leave them in the vehicle at all when unattended. Some people think that by putting valuables under the seat or in the glove compartment that this is enough of a security measure. Thieves are well aware that this is the favorite hiding spots and usually is the first place they will check. These culprits may have two motives in mind when targeting your vehicle. They may be just planning on stealing whatever valuables they can find, like your cell phone or electronics, or they may be planning on helping themselves to your entire vehicle. You make this an easy task for them if you happen to be hiding an extra set of keys in the vehicle.

Then there is the false sense of security that car alarms can bring. In the past these have been so sensitive and false triggered that most people pay no heed to them, other than thinking they are just a nuisance.

When you are thinking about the security for your vehicle, consider where you are parking it. Try to have it parked in a well lit area. At your residence your home security system can be expanded to protect your garage or driveway, and some exterior lighting will help.
