Is It Time for a Sump Pump and an Alarm Sensor?

flood alert protectionNormally those that live in Toronto and surrounding area for the most part don’t have the need for a sump pump. Except of course for those living in low lying areas or near streams. At least that used to be the case before some of the hefty rains that Toronto and the GTA have experienced this summer.

For those that were home during these storms they were able to keep a close eye on their basements to determine if they needed to deal with any water issues. For those that were away from home some came home to the shock of seeing a totally flooded basement.

Ironically there have even been some television advertisments regarding insurance and flood protection, where there are indications that flooding is a disaster that can occur for those outside of the flood danger zones.

While you may not have any control over the weather and not even be able to do anything to stop the flood at least if you have some controls in place like a sump pump to help you deal with when it happens is better than nothing. The problem is though often with the torrential rains comes a power outage and your sump pump may not kick in unless it has a battery backup.

Then there is the odd occassion where the sensor is not set properly to tell the pump its time to go to work. This is one problem that can be easily dealt with by having a sump pump alarm sensor installed. Should the water rise to a certain level you will be notified with an alarm that there is a problem. At least then you can take extra steps to remove the water even though it may have to be done manually if the sump pump is not functioning properly.

There are a lot of extra measures that you can utilize to protect your home or at least alert you to some of the perils that can occur. While flooding can be a costly mishap other perils like fire can be a life grabber. While you are considering extra flood alert measures at the same time take a close look at your fire alert systems and attend to any potential weaknesses in either of these areas.

You can never waste time on your safety measures and ensuring that your home is going to be attended to during any type of mishap will give you a greater feeling of security.
