Do You Need to Have Your Locks Rekeyed

rekeying locksThink about all the keys that you have in your possession. It may be just a few such as those for the doors of your residence. Or you may also have a set of car keys, then added to this you may have keys for your business.

You need to know that only those and others that have authority to have these keys do so. This is often not the case though. You or any other family member could have lost the keys to your home. Perhaps you just went and had another one cut to replace it. Ideally if this is the case you would be adding far more security protection if you were to get those particular locks rekeyed. This way if anyone were to find the original lost keys they would not be able to use them. You may feel this is unlikely because the finder of the key wouldn’t have a clue as to what they belonged to. While this is so in many cases there have also been times where keys have been stolen strictly for the purpose of gaining unlawful entry. Then the lost key could have had some sort of identifier on it. There is no reason to take unnecessary chances even if they are slim, and especially when it is so easy and affordable to have the locks rekeyed. All it takes is a quality and trustworthy Toronto locksmith to do this for you.

Now lets look at the scenario where you just bought a new home. You go and pick up the keys from the lawyers. You may receive one or two sets but do you have any idea how many other sets are still floating around somewhere? To be safe you can either have the locks rekeyed or replaced. If the locks are very old and outdated security wise, then the better option would be to have the locks replace with the more security protective type that are now available.

When it comes to losing your car keys, you may be thinking the same way as we talked about with lost house keys. Chances of anyone knowing which vehicle they belonged to would be pretty slim. However, if you lost the keys in a parking lot where you always part don’t under estimate the patience of a would be thief to try your found keys out on the vehicles in the lot until he found yours was a perfect match. Again this is not something you will have to worry about especially if you utilize the services of the Toronto locksmiths at Pre-lock to rekey your vehicle for you.
