This makes the would be thief even more intent on finding ways to go about their deeds. So, it is important that we are continuously keeping up with Toronto thieves.

We all tend to make some security mistakes. One that a lot of people make is leaving their garage opener in their car when they are vacating it. Of course there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with this. After all you may be 10 miles away from your home, so what good is the garage opener to a thief? Well, it appears that some crooks in the Toronto area are using this habit of the garage remote being left in the vehicle  to their advantage.

They may watch for people leaving their home that use a garage door closer, then follow them to their place of business or wherever they are going.  Once the individual leaves the car, the thief then breaks into the car and steals the garage opener, and returns to the residence. They now have access to the garage, and can now enter through the door leading from the garage to the house. Many people tend to not bother locking this door because they feel it is secure with the locked garage door.

If this seems a little far fetched then you may want to check out this news article about thieves stealing garage remote controls. Their methods may not be exactly the same as in our scenario, but nevertheless they are stealing the remotes and using them to attempt entry into the residence.

The steps that need to be taken here are…

When you are leaving your vehicle, take your remote control for the garage with you.

Make sure that the locking system on your garage has been updated. This way you are sure that the same frequency for the unit is not spread amongst many.

Be diligent about locking your residence door from the garage to the house.

If your remote has been stolen then change your locking system immediately.

In general, take a good look at the present security that you have for your home. See if it needs to be updated. Also now is a good time to do a security review with your family.
