Beefing Up Your Security for Those Purchase Deliveries

gift delivery securityA lot of people love the convenience of shopping online. The problem is they are often delivered when nobody is home and they get left sitting at the front door. A great invitation for an unscrupulous individual who wants something for nothing.

For those who don’t shop online they don’t give much thought to this, but a recent news article shows just how much of a reality it really is…

“Parcels going missing from Bloor and Ossington porches

Parcels and packages have been going missing from porches in the Bloor Street West and Ossington Avenue area, leaving residents to suspect that something is up”….continue reading.

This just serves as a reminder that not everyone embraces the Christmas spirit and there are some individuals who view this time of year as the ideal time for them to profit from their thievery.

When it comes to parcel deliveries you may want to put some extra precautions in place. First when you are placing orders of merchandise whether online or on land set it so you have to sign for them. This can be convenient because it may mean you have to sit in and wait for it to come. A lot of parcel delivery services aren’t able to give you an exact time.

If you are buying several items that will be delivered try and synchronize the same delivery day. At least this way you won’t have to spend multiple days waiting for parcels to arrive.

Often family members from out of town like to ship parcels by mail or courier. If you don’t think you are going to be able to be home to accept them, then you could ask them to ship by post where you could pick them up at the post office. This way you have more control over the delivery process that may better fit into your time schedule.

Another alternative is if you simply cannot be at home to receive a delivery then perhaps you can prearrange acceptance of the delivery by a neighbor.

The one thing that you want to avoid is a mishap like the one we just showed you in the news exerpt. Even if the value of the parcel is not that much, or the company delivering it is going to replace it, its a matter of principal that an unwanted person was on your property and took what did not belong to them.

If you haven’t thought much about your security needs in the past, then now may be a good time, and you can give the experts at Pre-lock a call at 416-773-5625 to see how they can help you with this.
