Pre-Lock Candle Safety Tips

Pre lock candle safety tipsHopefully all of your holiday decorating is done and your shopping is out of the way, and you are now able to enjoy the festivities of the season. Like many you are probably going to be doing some entertaining, and this is the time all those beautiful candles are lit and put on display to add to the festive cheer. It is also a time where there is a heightened danger of a misfortune like a fire due to the many decorations such as lit candles especially in small places where there are lots of people.

There are a few things that you can do to make using your candles much safer. Often people like to put a selection of candles on the table when serving a meal. While they do add to the decor they can easily be knocked over as people are reaching for the wonderful foods that are out on the table. Think about maybe using hurricane globes to shield the candles, and they make it more difficult for the candle to be knocked over. You may also want to consider the artificial candles that are battery operated for this particular setting as well.

During this time of year many of us like to pick up odds & ends from our local dollar store. They have some really neat candles and candle holders at great prices but remember that you are basically getting what you pay for. Often the candles found here are not of the best quality and tend to drip more. You want to be absolutely sure they are not near any flammable surfaces. The candles holders are really cute but the slender pillar candles often don’t sit secure in them. There is a risk that they could topple out of the holders and start a fire.

Of course you know never to leave candles burning unattended to. Make absolutely sure that they stay out once you have snuffed them. Do not store them away just after they have been burning.

This time of year is also a good time to do a thorough check of your fire alert systems, and maybe do a fire drill with the family. This is something that you should do several times a year. During the festive seasons with all the extra decorations, the Christmas tree, and the array of wrapped presents, exits sometimes tend to get blocked. Don’t let this joyous time turn into a fire tragedy. Be extra cautious about your fire safety.

Don’t forget that Pre-lock is here to meet all of your security needs for your home and business.
