Carbon Monoxide Detectors are Mandatory

carbon monoxide safetyFor the most part most us like to have a choice of what level of security we choose to have in our homes and businesses. The majority of us will ensure that we have put all of the best protective measures in place to protect our family from all types of potential harm. This includes fire alerts, and for those who have not realized the need for carbon monoxide detectors, the installation of these has now become Ontario law under Bill 77.

Some call carbon monoxide the silent killer. When breathed in it replaces the normal oxygen in the body and ends up starving the body of this, and kills the cells.

For those who do survive carbon monoxide exposure there can be both short term and long term effects. The short term effects can be symptoms that are close in nature to those that you feel when you have the flu.

Longer term and more serious effects can range from brain damage to heart problems and a whole gambit of other effects.

Carbon Monoxide has no odor, color or taste to it, which means a carbon monoxide leak can go undetected until the end result is death.

There have been detectors for this gas on the market for a long time, but unfortunately many people don’t know about the dangers of the gas, or feel that they would be exposed to it in their living environment.

Some common sources of carbon monoxide producers are those that come from heat producing items. Things like furnaces, cooking ranges, and even fireplaces or wood burning stoves to name a few.

Knowing a little about what carbon monoxide can do, and what some are of it sources are, is not enough to protect you and your family.

You now need to insure that you not only have the proper carbon monoxide detectors installed, but they are put in the right places.

You also want to be sure that you are relying on a good quality detector. With something as important as this in regards to the health and safety of your family, you may want to give the experts at Pre-lock a call and follow their advice as to the type and location of the devices would best suit your needs.
