Whats In Your Vehicle That Crooks Want?

car break insA lot of families have more than one vehicle and they often think that maybe only the newer model and not the used one, is of interest to thieves who make it their business to break into cars. It may be that they are not interested in stealing the vehicle itself, but what is in the car or truck may be of big interest to them.

Almost all of us tend to leave some valuables in our vehicles, and figure as long as we lock it up when left unattended we are safe. This isn’t always the case and when items are left in plain view especially then they become tempting to the thief.

The most common items that a crook will look for which often is left in the console  is the small electronics. These are items like your smartphones or ipads. Then how many times do you place your laptop in the back seat of the car and make several stops during the day where this valuable device is simply forgotten about, at least by you. Leaving this item where it can be seen is like an invitation to getting it stolen.

Tools is another favored item that is stolen, and this isn’t just from open trucks either. Most people have become a little more conscientious about leaving any form of identification in their vehicles but some do keep this type of information in their glove box. So it might not serve as the primary reason why someone will be enticed to break into your vehicle, but it will be an area that they check out once they have gained access.

Some items that you may think have no real value to the thief are items, like your expensive sunglasses, or even your garage door open.  If you are parking in a poverty area, even a few dollars in change could be the encouragement to have someone break into your vehicle.

It isn’t just the potential items that may be stolen that you have to be concerned about, its the possible damage to your vehicle that could occur in the process. For small items and a quick score some thieves will just simply smash and grab. If you are a victim of this type of crime you now have the broken glass to replace and the cost of it.

The best protection is not to leave anything of value or what is important to you in your vehicle. If you have to, then make sure it is well concealed.
