Planning Your New Toronto Home Build Security – Intro

new home build securityThere is a lot that you have to plan for when it comes to the construction of your new home. If you have chosen to buy in a sub division then you are going to be dealing with a specific contractor. You no doubt will be given some options like choice of layouts and appliance options, but you may want to take it further than that, and have your home customized for security.

You are probably thinking like most new home owners that you will put your security measures in place after you move in. It will just be a matter of finding a security company to your liking then letting them install whatever system they promote. While this is true why not take the opportunity to beef up your security in layers which is the best defense you can have. Not only that by taking these extra steps, it can be a great selling feature if you ever decide to sell your home.

What is security layers:

Basically it is building up layers of protection where each one makes it difficult for any thief to get past that area. It begins with your landscaping, then your doors, your windows, and next your interior. It may sound like a lot of work and expense but it isn’t really. It takes more planning and making some customizations. This is a golden opportunity for you because you are just having your home built. The key though is to start thinking about these additional security measures right from the planning stage of your home because you want to make the changes through various stages of the build.

Security isn’t just about home break-ins:

When we think about security we automatically think about the prevention of home break-ins. There are other areas that have to be considered as well such as fire and flood. While new home build contractors have to follow build and safety codes, you also want to think about any enhancements that you could possibly make that would make you even safer in regards to these perils.

Where to begin:

Of course it all begins with you shopping around to find the new sub division that interests you. Then once you have decided on this you no doubt will be taking some tours of the show homes. You will be instantly caught up in its grandeur because these show homes are so intricately staged. Try to keep in mind the security points that we have talked about. In future posts we will walk you through each of these segments and what customizations you may want to make to enhance your security.

At this point in your new home house search you want to decide on your location, which model of the home appeals to you, and then determine how flexible your builder is. Are they going to allow you to make the changes that you may want to do for your security enhancement?

You will want to ask them if you can choose your own window manufacturers, or window layout? Are you able to have your own choice of doors and locks installed? Can you plan your own landscaping? Will you be able to have your own security company come in and install a wired security system if this is your choice?

All of the answers to these questions are going to be most important to you if you are serious about ensuring that your new home has the best security measures in place for you and your family.
